Security & Copyright
Security, copyright and content protection
How we protect author work, what we do about infringement and impersonation, and the channels you can trust as genuinely ours.
Introduction
Honest protection, not security theatre
No website can be made impossible to copy, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What we can do is protect the material that matters most, respond quickly when work is misused, and make it easy to verify that a message really came from us.
Unpublished manuscripts and contracts are the sensitive material on this platform. They live in private storage, are reachable only through short-lived links issued to signed-in accounts with a reason to see them, and are never listed publicly or indexed by search engines.
Everything below describes controls that are in place today. Where a control depends on a service we have not yet enabled, we say so rather than implying it exists.
Authorised channels
- This website and its subdomains
- Email from our published team addresses
- The signed-in client portal for documents and contracts
- Anything else claiming to be Meridian Press should be reported to us
What we do
Controls in place
01
Encryption in transit
All traffic is served over HTTPS. Documents are delivered through signed links rather than public URLs.
02
Access control
Role-based permissions separate authors, staff and administrators. Manuscript contents are restricted to assigned editorial staff.
03
Upload validation
File type and size checks on every upload, with manuscripts stored in a private bucket that has no public read access.
04
Audit logging
Administrative actions on submissions and documents are recorded so access can be reviewed after the fact.
05
Account security
Verified email is required before portal access. Password reset runs through a time-limited link to the registered address.
06
Crawler and indexing control
Portal and document routes are excluded from the sitemap and from crawling; only public marketing pages are indexed.
How it works
Reporting infringement or impersonation
Reports are reviewed within five working days and prioritised ahead of general support.
Step one
Send the report
Include the URL or channel, the work affected, and your relationship to it. Screenshots help.
Step two
Verification
We confirm ownership of the work and assess whether the use is infringing, licensed or fair.
Step three
Action
Where infringement is established we issue a takedown notice to the host or platform and, for impersonation, to the registrar.
Step four
Outcome
You receive a written outcome. Where we cannot act, we explain why and point to the route that can.
In practice
Rights and ownership
Authors keep their copyright
Submitting or publishing with us does not transfer copyright. Any licence we take is written into the agreement, limited and time-bound.
Site content ownership
Text, design and imagery on this site belong to Meridian Press International or its licensors, except author work displayed under permission.
Third-party quotations
Reviews and press quotations are reproduced briefly, with attribution and a link to the source.
No deceptive scam alerts
We do not manufacture warnings about competitors. We report only impersonation of ourselves that we can evidence.
What you can rely on
Requires external services
Being straight about the boundary between what runs today and what needs a provider you would have to enable.
Malware scanning
Upload scanning requires a third-party scanning service. The integration point exists; the provider is not yet connected.
Hotlink protection
Asset hotlink restriction depends on CDN configuration at the hosting layer rather than application code.
Formal DMCA agent
A registered DMCA agent is a legal filing, not a website feature. Until one is registered we handle notices directly.
Continuous monitoring
Automated infringement monitoring requires a subscription service; today's process is report-driven.
Questions
Questions we are asked
Can you stop people copying text from the site?
Not reliably, and disabling right-click mainly harms legitimate readers and accessibility tools. We focus on protecting unpublished work and pursuing genuine infringement.
Who owns my manuscript after I submit it?
You do. Submission grants us permission to read and assess it, nothing more.
How do I know an email is really from you?
Check the address against the team page. We never ask for passwords, and payment details are only ever issued through the signed-in portal.
What happens to my files if I leave?
Request deletion and we remove uploaded manuscripts and documents within thirty days, keeping only what contract or law requires.
Get in touch
Report a security or copyright issue
Describe what you found, where you found it, and what work or identity is affected. We prioritise these reports.
Prefer email? Write to the main desk or read the trust and transparency centre first.
